Join us on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, from 1:30-3:30 PM for four dynamic post-conference workshops designed to deepen your expertise and equip you with practical, actionable strategies across today's most important assessment topics. Whether you're looking to strengthen accessibility in exam delivery, explore the power of performance-based assessments, demystify the test development lifecycle, or elevate your marketing impact in a rapidly evolving industry, these interactive sessions offer hands-on learning led by experienced practitioners. Choose the workshop that aligns with your goals and leave with new insights, tools, and approaches you can immediately apply within your organization.
Exam programs strive to reach as many candidates as possible. Cognitive or sensory constructs that are unaccounted for during exam creation can impact the validity and reliability of the assessment and can inadvertently exclude qualified candidates from obtaining licenses, certifications, or otherwise demonstrating mastery of a content domain.
This interactive workshop will explore the process of creating an accessible exam by considering the accommodation and accessibility needs of test-takers during exam development and will focus on accessibility considerations across two broad categories: 1) the accessibility of exam platforms, and 2) the accessibility of exam forms.
This post-ATP, interactive 2-hour workshop will begin with an overview of important accessibility and accommodation considerations relevant to all programs. Participants will then examine how these considerations relate to their own programs, identifying actionable next steps that they can implement within their contexts.
After this session, you will be able to:
For those new to the concept, accessibility can seem like an insurmountable obstacle. This workshop will provide you with a broader perspective and appreciation for the topic of exam accessibility and encourage your efforts in creating a more accessible exam experience for all test takers.
Performance-based assessments (PBAs) provide a robust framework for evaluating complex competencies — often those that can't be fully captured with multiple choice questions. However, even well-designed, authentic, task-centered assessments can present new challenges. This post conference workshop will introduce attendees to foundational elements of PBA, beginning with the identification of performance constructs, those observable behaviors or skills that are aligned with real-world tasks. Effective task design is critical for PBAs, which often include simulations, case-based scenarios, or structured interactions that mirror educational or professional contexts.
Next, the speakers will discuss the diverse response modalities in PBAs, which can include written text, spoken/oral responses, and physical task execution. Each modality introduces unique challenges for reliability and generalizability, particularly due to task dependency and contextual variability. Strategies such as task sampling, rater training, and statistical modeling can be employed to mitigate these issues. Scoring approaches for PBAs range from binary checklists to nuanced rating scales, with both human and automated scoring methods in use. While automated scoring offers scalability, human raters provide nuanced, contextual judgment — and perhaps substantive rater bias that must be addressed through training, calibration, and monitoring. Recent advances in technology, including artificial intelligence, can now be used to implement PBA tasks that were formerly infeasible, unscalable, or prohibitively expensive. Other technological tools, such as tablet testing, allow for enhanced data analysis, auditing, and security measures.
Finally, the speakers will discuss validity threats specific to PBAs, including construct underrepresentation and construct-irrelevant variance; these often stem from poorly aligned tasks, rater bias, or inconsistent scoring. Practical considerations such as development costs, scoring logistics, and return on investment (ROI) will be covered as well, with emphasis on the need for strategic planning to ensure the PBA is a success.
During this session, attendees will learn about:
Curious about how assessments and exams are built? Join us for an interactive workshop that demystifies the test development process from start to finish. Whether you're new to the field or looking to deepen your understanding, this session offers valuable insights for all experience levels.
We'll walk through the full lifecycle of exam development — including job/task analysis (JTA), content creation, form assembly, scoring and reporting, and standard setting. Along the way, we'll connect each step to recognized best practices and industry standards such as NCCA, ISO 17024:2012, and AERA/APA/NCME guidelines.
Expect practical examples, helpful handouts, and plenty of opportunities to ask questions. By the end of the session, you'll be able to:
No prior knowledge is needed — just bring your curiosity and a willingness to learn!
Is your organization's marketing team constantly juggling the demands of various internal stakeholders without the time, influence, or space to be seen as a strategic driver of growth?
In the traditionally conservative assessment industry, the pace of change is accelerating. Shifting learner expectations, rapid technology adoption, evolving policy landscapes, and increasing competition are raising the stakes and creating new opportunities for marketing leaders to shape the future.
This post-ATP, interactive 2-hour workshop is your opportunity to pause the day-to-day grind and re-engage as a strategic thought leader. Alongside peers from across the assessment ecosystem, you will reflect on shared challenges, deepen your understanding of stakeholders, identify the forces influencing your organization, and outline actionable strategies to drive lasting impact.
In this session, you will:
Whether you are part of a certification body, test publisher, or education company, this session is designed to help you evolve your marketing mindset, reframe your organization's value, and reimagine your role in driving growth and transformation.
